We are launching our new year by Enjoying Jesus. I can’t think of a better way to start the year. We are going to Enjoy Jesus More. We are going to do it together.
Our first meeting is on Sunday. Let me remind you of the meeting schedule.
Cohort 3 coached by Jackson & Francine: Sundays 5-7pm & Thursdays 7-9pm
Cohort 4 coached by Paul, Davis, Morgan, & Margaret: Sundays 3-5pm & Thursdays 7-9pm
For the first time ever, we have two cohorts running concurrently. This is more people seeking to Enjoy Jesus More. This is good. The meetings will be in reserved rooms on campus. We will send the exact location before the first meeting.
Here are some setup instructions and your first project prompt to do this week before our first meeting.
We will use Slack to communicate with each other in our cohorts.
Cohort 3 with Jackson and Francine. If you haven’t already joined the slack group from the email invitation, you can follow this link to setup your free slack account for EnjoyingJesus3.
Cohort 4 with Paul, Davis, Morgan, & Margaret. If you haven’t already joined the slack group from the email invitation, you can follow this link to setup your free slack account for EnjoyingJesus4.
Once you get logged in, add your profile picture and correct your name if needed.
Note that you can use slack on your phone or your computer, so download whatever apps you need. I use it on both and it rocks. Having the slack app on your phone may help you out during the course.
You will post your projects to your blog on wordpress. Open a free blog account on Wordpress. Just use your name if possible for the blog name. For example, mine would be: paulsewell.wordpress.com.
To get started your free blog started, go to Wordpress.
Adjust this one setting to allow comments on your blog:
In WordPress, go to
My Site (on the top left of the page)
Settings (on the bottom left of the page)
Discussion (tab in the middle of the the page)
Turn off the two comments items saying:
Comment must be manually approved
Comment author must have a previously approved comment
A link to your blog, and
A picture of yourself for the bio book.
My email is: email@example.com
Those three setup items above cover the technology set up for the course. This technology is going to streamline our communication as we help each other enjoy Jesus more.
Now moving from setup to the good stuff! Here is your first project prompt...
Project 1. Your Story.
This project is due Saturday, January 5, at 11:59pm the night before your first meeting.
Of course, there is no reason to wait. Go ahead and jump in.
Let me also suggest doing the technology setup items at a different time than the project. Technology setup is a "just get it done" sort of admin task. The Project Prompt is a reflection and thinking sort of task you don't want to "just get it done." We aren't here to check boxes. We are here to Enjoy Jesus More.
Did you know our minds don't shift easily between administrative tasks and creative projects?
Because of this do the different kinds of work at different times or at least take a break and change your mindset when you move from admin to creative work.
If you are interested in this topic, you will want to read this blog post: The Maker's Schedule v/s the Manager's Schedule. [These last three paragraphs are just a sidebar that might be helpful in this course and in life.]
I really can't wait to learn more about Your Story from Project 1! I hope some of you post in the next couple of days so I don't have to wait until Sunday to read some. Either way, I look forward to reading your story.
Let me know if you have any questions or something doesn't work quite right. We will figure it out together.
